Requirements Development (REDV)

The first process area at Level 3 is Requirements Development. The purpose of Requirements Development is to gather and analyze the customer requirements. The major activities are:

- Elicit proper and complete requirements from relevant stake holders.
- Develop the life cycle requirements
- Develop design requirements

Goal:

1. Develop Customer Requirements - equivalent to business requirements

2. Develop Product Requirements - equivalent to technical requirements

3. Analyze and Validate Requirements - use of methods like prototyping/simulation to validate the requirements

Proper requirements elicitation must ensure that requirements are not just correct, but complete too.

Technical Solution (TS)

This process area talks of design and coding processes.

The focus is on evaluating and selecting solutions (design approaches), developing detailed designs (Program Specifications) and implementing the design as a product (coding).

There are 3 goals here:
1. Select Product Component Solutions
2. Develop the Design
3. Implement the Product Design

One indicator of a good design process is that the design was chosen after comparing and evaluating it against alternative solutions.
