DAR - Decision Analysis and Resolution

Decision Analysis and Resolution, process area at L-3, is to analyze possible decisions (options) using a formal evaluation process that takes into account critical and established criteria.

The objective is to arrive at the “right” decision when we are confronted with multiple options. Both numeric criteria (like a weighted average method) and non-numeric criteria (like High, Medium, and Low) can be used during the evaluation process.

The aim is also that we identify multiple options and then choose the best one rather than going with the first option that comes to the mind.

DAR can be used in decision making situations like:

- Should I go for a .NET framework or J2EE framework
- Should I go for regression testing (in maintenance projects)
- Can I offshore the maintenance of a application
- The kind of design approach we should take, etc

Goal – Evaluate Alternatives.

The activities involved here are:

- Identifying evaluation criteria
- Identifying alternative solutions
- Select evaluation methods
- Evaluate alternative
- Select solutions

Organizational Process Focus (OPF)

OPF looks at planning and implementing process improvement based on current strengths and weaknesses. Organizations processes are the organization set of standard process.

The 2 goals for this PA are:

1. Determine process improvement opportunities
2. Plan and implement process improvement activities

Organizational Process Definition (OPD)

OPD on the other hand looks at how an organization establishes a usable set of process assets. The organization’s process asset library is a collection of items for use by the people and projects of the organization.

Organizations should have a system to capture as-is artifacts - Process Assets.

The goal at this PA is Establish organizational process assets
